Native Artist Peter Smith

Born in Vancouver 1972, Peter Smith is a Kwakwaka'wakw artist. Peter started carving in 1995. His Indian name is Giq-Kalas, which means "Sons of Great Importance". He has learned from master carvers Simon Dick and Simon James, developing a style of his own while keeping the traditions of his people. Peter was also taught by Sonija Triebwasser how to create northwest coast silver jewelry.
